Miles Historical Village Museum anniversary afternoon presents

‘The Ghosts of Gallipoli’

12th September 2015

The stories of soldiers (born in the area or enlisted in Miles) who served at Gallipoli will be told.

Local research has identified 13 of these men who served at Gallipoli in 1915. You will hear stories of Charles Parish, Douglas Handford, Edward Stevenson, William Fennelly, James Suley, Hugh Hagan, Frederick Ratcliff, Eric Newberry, William Burrow, John Kennedy, John Williams, Arthur McGrath, and Thomas Walker.

Of the 13 men, 7 survived the war, 3 died at Gallipoli and 3 in France after surviving Gallipoli.

The village War Museum will have on display a 100 year old letter written by Thomas Walker, sent home when he was serving at Gallipoli.

He was killed at Gallipoli on the 11th September 1915.

The afternoon will include games for children, entertainment, afternoon tea and the annual Billy Boiling Challenge.

Entry by gold coin. Events start at 1 pm.
